Hey! I'm Chris Butler, founder of projectoption—an options trading education platform and YouTube channel with over 480,000 subscribers and 36 million views.
I've spent 10 years in finance, all of it focused on options trading. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Finance from DePaul University in Chicago, I joined tastytrade, where I created educational content for self-directed investors. In 2016, I launched projectoption to pursue my dream of building something of my own in my favorite field—hence the name.
My long-form "Options Trading for Beginners" YouTube video has attracted nearly 18 million views. I poured everything I had into that one by trying to explain options in the clearest, most approachable and visual way that I could. Seeing comments from people who said it finally clicked for them after years of confusion was the most fulfilling moment of my career. That's what keeps me going. It's why I wanted to build this site and the tools on it—to help more people understand options and use them with confidence.
I've always been drawn to technical fields like mathematics, options trading, and programming. Building projectoption has been a way to combine all of them. I get to solve problems I care about and create tools I wish I had when I started.
When I'm not creating content or building the website, I'm probably traveling to visit family and friends, or participating in an action sport like kitesurfing or snowboarding.
